YOU HEARD IT FIRST: 2014 Back-to-Back Opens

Exciting news has been confirmed about the 2014 U.S. Open and U.S. Women's Open will be played back-to-back at North Carolina's Pinehurst No. 2 Resort & Country Club. The unique paring of the 2014 U.S. Open and U.S. Women's Open will be the first time in history these events will be held on the same course one week after another.

The 2014 U.S. Open will take place June 12-15, shortly followed by the U.S. Women’s Open on June 19-22 and will be two weeks of exciting unforgettable championship golf unlike anything else.

David B. Fay the Executive Director of the United States Golf Association said,

"Two physical characteristics of Pinehurst No. 2 make it ideal for hosting these two championships in consecutive weeks: the course’s sand base, which minimizes the damage that comes from play, and the lack of rough around the greens. The concept is novel, but I have great confidence in the ability of our operations team, the people at Pinehurst and the whole golf community to make both championships an unquestionable success.

Pinehurst No. 2 has previously hosted nine USGA national championships, including the 2008 U.S. Amateur; the U.S. Open in 1999 and 2005; the 1994 U.S. Senior Open; the 1989 U.S. Women’s Amateur; and the 1962 U.S. Amateur. The 2014 U.S. Women’s Open will be the first conducted on this Donald Ross masterpiece in the sandhills of North Carolina.

The USGA is particularly indebted to the Pinehurst Resort, and especially its owner Bob Dedman, the Village of Pinehurst and the State of North Carolina for their wholehearted support of our plan for the 2014 U.S. Open and U.S. Women’s Open."

Be sure to make your plans early because tickets will sell out and hotels will be booked!

Rocks R9 460 Driver to Victory at Travelers Championship

TaylorMade-adidas Golf Tour Professional Lonnie Nielson Debuts R9 460 and Dominates Dick's Sporting Goods Open

Carlsbad, Calif. (June 29, 2009) – TaylorMade-adidas Golf Tour Staff professional Kenny Perry fired a nearly effortless, bogey-free final-round 63 to clinch victory at the Travelers Championship. It was his second win on the PGA Tour this year, his fifth in the past 13 months and his first since switching to the new R9 460 driver.

It was the 14th career PGA Tour win for the 48-year old Perry, whose goal is to reach 20. His Traveler's win was a record-setter for the event at 22-under par that started with a gaudy opening-round 61 and finished with a final round 63 to stave off fellow TMaG staffer and R9™ 460 user Paul Goydos.

This is as good a win as I've ever had," Perry said. "On Sunday, my golf was unbelievable. To shoot 22-under par, to break the all-time record of all the great champions that are on this trophy, it's unbelievable."

With his R9 460, Kenny ranked 12th in driving distance with an average of 293.1 yards and T20th in driving accuracy at 80.4% of fairways hit. He also ranked T3rd in greens in regulation. *

The victory was his fifth on the PGA Tour in a little more than a year; the most of any player in that time span. It elevated Kenny to No. 1 on the PGA Tour money list, No. 1 on the Fedex points list, No. 3 on the Presidents Cup points list and No. 3 on the Ryder Cup points list.

Perry was one of 38 players who played an R9 driver, 14 of whom used the just-introduced R9 460.

In Perry's winning bag*:

Driver: R9 460 9.5°
Fairways: Burner 3-wood, Prototype Raylor® 17.5°
Irons: r7 4 – PW
Wedges: rac 54° and 64°
Footwear: adidas Golf
Apparel: adidas Golf

Nielsen Charges to Victory
TaylorMade-adidas Golf Tour Staff professional Lonnie Nielsen's first week with his new R9 460 was something special: At the Dick's Sporting Goods Open he combined the new driver with a TaylorMade TP Black™ ball with LDP to rank 2nd in driving distance at 295 yards and T8th in driving accuracy at 73.8%. *

Continually driving it in position to fire at the flags in the final round, he shot a nine-under par final-round 63 to come from behind and win the tournament. Sharing the runner-up position was fellow TaylorMade Tour Staff pro Fred Funk, who also played the R9 460.

It was Nielson's second top-five finish this year and second Champions Tour victory overall.

In Nielsen's winning bag:

Driver: R9 460 9.5°
Fairways: Burner 3-wood 15°
Hybrids: Rescue TP 17° and 19°
Irons: rac LT 5 – PW
Wedges: rac 54°, 58° and 60°

Donald Trump turns down LPGA Championship

For the last four years or so Donald Trump has been eager to host a major PGA event and this past Friday. (June 26, 2009) Donald had the opportunity to host the LPGA Championship and turned it down.

I have one question for Mr. Trump. Everyone loves all the lovely ladies of the LPGA so why turn down their championship?

At Donald's Bedminster golf club he did state "They wanted it for more than one year and I didn't want to commit the course for more than one year."

Shooter Magavin?

We have all been behind a slow golfer at least once in our lifetime but, how many of us have actually felt the urge and followed through with pulling a .25-caliber Browning handgun loaded with hollow-point bullets out and pointed it at someone? Edwin Dailey, a 73-year-old golfer is guilty of doing such a thing at an Austin, Texas municipal golf course on Thursday June 25, 2009. Edwin Dailey was upset that the group in front of him was playing too slow and had parked their golf cart improperly on the 9th hole and continued to argue for several holes. The confrontation was reignited by Dailey later in the parking lot. The affidavit said, "The three men took cover behind cars, fearing for their lives". Dailey then concealed his weapon and went back to the clubhouse while the men called 911.

ATLANTA (April 30, 2009) — Feeling guilty about spending your “green on the green” because of the recession? Crowne Plaza will also help business travelers and golfers lower their handicap with expert golfing tips from Leadbetter, which will be showcased through clever commercials that launch today and run through early August 2009.

“Even though we’re facing a tough economy, we can’t stop looking for ways to do the things we love. Through our new marketing campaign, we want to make it easier for our guests who golf to enjoy the game without feeling guilty about every dollar they spend on non-essentials,” said Gina LaBarre, vice president, Brand Management, Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts.

“Through our relationship with David and Callaway Golf, we’re able to build further awareness for Crowne Plaza hotels among golf enthusiasts and business travelers alike."

This year's integrated marketing campaign is an extension of the brand's first national television advertising campaign which was launched in April 2007 and continued in 2008.

“Get a Better Game” Ad Campaign
Created by Fallon of Minneapolis, Crowne Plaza’s 2009 ad campaign focuses on rewarding guests with the very latest Callaway Golf equipment. In a series of three,
30-second TV spots, David Leadbetter, the legendary golf guru who has taught both professionals and amateurs how to “get a better game,” uses his expert golf tips from a Crowne Plaza hotel, an unlikely golf green.

Crowne Plaza “How to Get a Better Game” Tips
∑ Tip #1: How to play out of the rough…by way of room service roughage
∑ Tip #2: How to hit a ball out of water…inside a hotel bathroom
∑ Tip # 3: How to hit a low bullet driver…down a hotel corridor

“Through all my years instructing golf, this was the very first occasion I carried out a drill inside of a hotel,” said Leadbetter. “It was quite amusing yet the most creative ad campaign I’ve been a part of; it really was rather clever.”

The “Get a Better Game” marketing campaign is also supported via print and online ads in top golf media outlets and through hotel collateral such as key packets, key cards and front desk staff buttons, all designed to drive awareness of the brand’s affiliation with golf. The new marketing campaign closely aligns with the brand’s third year as the title sponsor of the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial golf tournament, which takes place in Fort Worth, Texas, May 25-31 this year.

I just split my britches.

That is right, I just split my shorts. It is quite alright though because I was preforming squats when it happened.

Did you know doing simple exercises such as "squats" and "sit ups" help build core muscles for better balance and more stability?

For squats we recommend 3 sets of 7-10 and rest a few minutes between each set.

For sit ups we recommend 3 sets of 15-20 and rest a few minutes between each set.

If you feel any pain stop and consult with a physician to make sure you are healthy enough to preform these activities.

Don't forget to stretch and eat 30-40 grams of protein after your work out routine to make your hard work well worth it.

Wire-to-Wire Victory at St. Jude Classic

R9 is the Winningest Driver on the PGA Tour

Carlsbad, Calif. (June 15, 2009) – Since switching to TaylorMade's R9™ driver at the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic, Brian Gay has won twice on the PGA Tour, both times making it look easy. Two months ago he cruised to a 10-shot victory at the Verizon Heritage Classic; yesterday he sealed a five-shot, wire-to-wire win at the St. Jude Classic.

The R9 incorporates TaylorMade's Flight Control Technology (FCT) and Movable Weight Technology™ (MWT®) to make it fully adjustable. Gay's FCT setting is one degree open, and he has 8-gram weights installed in each of the three MWT ports.

The R9 is the No. 1 driver model on the PGA Tour.* In addition to Gay, 20 other players put the R9 driver in play. Factor in the new R9 460 driver, which was played by 10 players, and the total number of R9 drivers in the field at the St. Jude Classic was 30, easily making it the No. 1 driver model at the event. ** Since the club’s introduction at the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic, it has won 10 times on the PGA Tour and has been the No. 1 played driver model 23 out of 24 events.

Learn more about the R9 driver, R9 460 driver, R9 fairway woods and Rescue® TP 2009 hybrid, all of which feature Flight Control Technology.

TaylorMade-adidas Golf Tour Staff Professionals

TaylorMade-adidas Golf Tour Staff Professionals
Christian Cévaër and Kevin Johnson Notch Wins
on the European and Nationwide Tours

Ranked No. 449 in the World, Cévaër Plays R9 Driver and TP Black Ball
En Route to Surprise Victory at The European Open

Johnson Claims Fifth Career Win; Plays TP Red Ball

Carlsbad, Calif. (June 1, 2009) – TaylorMade-adidas Golf Tour Staff Professionals Christian Cévaër and Kevin Johnson both relied on TaylorMade and adidas Golf equipment in their victories on the European and the Nationwide Tours yesterday.

Cévaër, No. 449 in the Official World Golf Rankings, hung tough at the demanding London Golf Club and gutted out a one-shot win in The European Open, one of the most prestigious events on the European Tour Schedule.

While several of his challengers fell victim to the 471-yard par-four 18th hole on the final day, which played to an average of almost 4.7 for the week, Cévaër negotiated it in par, par, birdie, par. His four on 18 on Sunday was particularly critical: Tied for the lead with two others, Cévaër, playing a TP Black LDP, drove safely with his R9 driver then used a Rescue TP hybrid to hit the green safely in regulation. His pursuers, meanwhile, drove off-line and failed to make four.

Cévaër's two-putt par gave him the title, which carries a five year exemption on the European Tour. With the win, Cévaër moved up more than 300 spots in the world rankings to No. 129.

In Raleigh, North Carolina at the Rex Hospital Open, Johnson bested fellow TMaG Tour Staffer Jeff Gallagher on the first playoff hole to earn his fifth career win. Like Cévaër, Johnson too played a TaylorMade TP golf ball.

TaylorMade's LDP technology promotes improved distance on the most common driver off-center hits and helps make TaylorMade TP balls (including TP Black™ and TP Red™) exceptionally resistant to the effects of headwinds and crosswinds. Learn more.

The wins were the 12th worldwide for the TaylorMade TP golf ball and the 16th for the Tour Preferred irons in 2009.
