Organizers drop out of Kapalua LPGA

HONOLULU, Hawaii June 30, 2009

The organizers of the Kapalua LPGA Classic have announced their action to pull out of their contract to host the annual LPGA event through 2012. Libba Galloway the LPGA deputy commissioner stated that she was "extremely disappointed" and the LPGA is enforcing its legal rights under the contract.

The contract holder, Kapalua Land Co said that they will be unable to host the tournament without a title sponsor. Gary Planos, senior VP of Resort Operations, said “It’s disappointing but a reality in today’s current economic climate that title sponsorships are difficult to secure.”

The inaugural Kapalua LPGA Classic that was held last October was on by Morgan Pressel.
