Jim Thorpe is GUILTY

Jim Thorpe, a 60-year old Lake Mary, FL based professional golfer plead guilty to federal tax evasion.

A case was brought up against Mr. Thorpe at the beginning of the year and his attorney Mark Horwitz insisted that Thorpe could take the case to trial. Horwitz stated "Mr. Thorpe has pleaded not guilty for these misdemeanors for not filing his tax returns timely and not paying his tax timely."

The federal prosecutors say that Thorpe earned more that $5 million from 2002 through 2004 and did not pay a penny in taxes on any of it and charged Thorpe with seven counts of tax evasion.

Since February Thorpe made a deal and plead guilty to two counts of failure to pay income taxes. For each of the two counts Thorpe faces a $25,000.00 fine and a year in prison. Thorpe also owes a little more than $2 million in back taxes.

After the hearing all Thorpe's lawyer had to say was "Mr. Thorpe has entered his plea of guilty uh... we will have other things to say... when sentencing occurs. We anticipate the sentencing uh... sometime in January."

Thorpe's sentencing probably won't happen for at least two to three months and getting back to The Champions Tour is on Thorpe's agenda.

Jim Thorpe is ranked 38th on the Champions Tour money list and has won an estimated $330,000.00 this year and more than $13 million in prize money throughout his career.

Outback Pro-Am Saturday

After a long morning of stressing because my camera battery wouldn't hold a charge, delusional Tampa detours, and the fear of getting a speeding ticket I made it to the highly anticipated 2009 Outback Pro-Am at the Tournament Players Club in Tampa Bay, FL. I made it just in time to watch Andy Bean, Fuzzy Zoeller, Tim Condron, and Phil Theismann tee off and follow them to the 3rd hole. Bill Murry was set to tee off at 12:50 and that was something I was not going to miss. I wish I could have followed Bill [Murry] because just being around him was like being at your own comedy show. He did a great job keeping everybody laughing from start to finish. I couldn't even believe how well some of the Ams like Emmitt Smith, Mark Wahlberg, and George Lopez played as well. It was such a great time I can't wait until next year because we will be ready and waiting to do it all over again. Don't forget your hard hats, sun block, and to get there early!

I would like to give a special thanks to everybody at Outback Steakhouse and J. Cunningham for showing me around the Hornitos VIP booth.

For more information on how to become a volunteer, tickets, standings, or any other information you may need visit the official Outback Pro-Am website: www.outbackproam.com

Member for a day at the River Hills Country Club

Yesterday my Co-Chairman, Larry and I stopped by the River Hills Country Club in Valrico, FL for a round of golf and to check out their facilities. The course was beautiful and had long fairways, challenging bunkers, and strategic greens. Besides the 18 hole championship golf course River Hills Country Club also offers a driving range, tennis courts, swimming pool, pro shop for both golf and tennis, fitness center that is 24 hours, and a restaurant with a bar and grill. It was a very pleasant day, one that I wish would never end but it was getting late and we had to get back to the offices. If you are thinking about joining a country club the River Hills CC is one you should consider.
