Trifecta: Rossa Putters Notch Victories on the PGA, Champions and LPGA Tours

Trifecta: Rossa Putters Notch Victories on the PGA, Champions and LPGA Tours

Carlsbad, Calif. (May 26, 2009) – Add three more to Rossa's victory count as three players used Rossa® putters to win on the PGA, Champions and LPGA tours last week.

Rory Sabbatini, one of the newest members of the TaylorMade Tour Staff, used a Rossa TP by Kia Ma Daytona to win the PGA Tour's HP Byron Nelson Championship, and in doing so ranked No. 1 in putts per green in regulation (1.531) and tied for No. 1 in putts per round (25.8).

The Rossa TP by Kia Ma putter franchise consists of three blades – Daytona (Rory's choice), Monaco and Imola; and two mallets – Monte Carlo and Maranello, each 100% CNC-milled from soft 1020 carbon steel and completed with a rich, midnight finish. Named after Rossa's resident putter craftsman Kia Ma, these beautiful putters are finished in fine detail and boast a quality of feel at impact that's absolutely unparalleled. Learn More.

On the Champions Tour, Michael Allen used a Rossa Itsy Bitsy Monza® Spider to win the Senior PGA Championship, overcoming a first-round 74 to finish at 6-under. Allen, who never won in 334 starts on the PGA Tour, became the 14th player to win in his Champion's Tour debut.

Finally, the winner of the LPGA Corning Classic also played an Itsy Bitsy Monza Spider, and used it to sink 19 birdies and four eagle-putts en route to a winning score of 21-under par.

As its name suggests, the Itsy Bitsy Monza Spider is smaller than the original Monza Spider. It was created at the request of tour pros who wanted a midsize Monza Spider that, like the original, is extremely forgiving, easy to aim and promotes excellent roll. Learn More.

Seventh Worldwide Win for TaylorMade’s Revolutionary R9 Driver

Carlsbad, Calif. (May 26, 2009)
– Rory Sabbatini, one of the newest members of the TaylorMade Tour Staff, put his new equipment to excellent use last week by winning the HP Byron Nelson Championship.

Using TaylorMade's new R9™ driver with Flight Control Technology (FCT), Sabbatini continually put himself in position to attack the pins on par-fours and get home in two on par-fives. The result was a tournament-leading 26 birdies, including eight in his final-round 64, which allowed him to break the tournament record of 19-under by a shot.

Converting birdies also means making putts, and Sabbatini was equally successful in that regard. Using a Rossa TP by Kia Ma, Daytona model, he ranked No. 1 in putts per green in regulation (1.531) and tied for No. 1 in putts per round (25.8).

Since switching to TaylorMade equipment Sabbatini, now ranked No. 27 in the Official World Golf Rankings, has made six of eight cuts and notched three top-10 finishes including his latest win.

"Since I've started with my new family at TaylorMade, it's really been a great relationship," Sabbatini said last week. "Obviously, I'm loving my new equipment; the new driver is working great. I just couldn't hope for anything more."

Sabbatini, who played the original R9, was one of 35 players who played an R9, eight of whom used the just-introduced R9 460.* The top six finishers, including Sabbatini, D.A. Points, Scott McCarron, Dustin Johnson and John Mallinger, all played the R9 driver.

TaylorMade Introduces Rossa Monza Spider Balero

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (May 13, 2009)– TaylorMade Golf has introduced a new addition to its popular line of Rossa® Monza® Spider putters, called the Monza Spider Balero, a large mallet that combines the forgiveness and feel of the Monza Spider with a uniquely shaped head that makes it dramatically easier to aim the clubface correctly.

"We spend a lot of time studying putting and the reasons why most average golfers don't putt as well as tour pros do," said Bill Price, senior director of Rossa. "One in-depth analysis we conducted focused on putts of 14 feet and less. That's a range where pros convert a relatively high percentage of the time, but amateurs don't. Why? One of the reasons is because, according to our data, the amateur aims the putterface poorly 64.4% of the time. Meaning that on two out of every three putts, the player
mis-aims."

Monza Spider Balero's head was designed to be extremely easy to aim. Its prominent "ball-in-cup" feature in the back of the head provides a visual cue that makes it incredibly simple to line up the clubface with the intended line.

At address, the image of the ball resting in front of the clubface works in conjunction with the white line on Balero's crown and the round hole through the back to help simplify the act of starting the ball rolling on the exact line you've chosen, especially if you line up the ball's label or side stamp (or if you prefer to draw a line on the ball) with the line across the top of Balero's crown.

Balero's ball-in-cup feature serves another positive function. Looking at it reinforces the image of a ball against the center of the back lip of the cup. That positively reinforces the practice of rolling the ball firmly into the back of the cup on short putts, which promotes a firm, accelerating stroke while discouraging deceleration.

Balero's large head and shape serve another critical purpose, and that's to deliver super-high MOI for the kind of stability and forgiveness on mis-hits that mallet fans covet. And the uni-body (made from a single piece) stainless steel construction, combined with a soft polymer AGSI® insert, contributes to Balero's remarkably soft feel.

An additional advantage to the Balero's shape and design is that it boasts an exceptionally low center of gravity. That low CG works in conjunction with AGSI technology to promote an even smoother, tighter roll of the face. Compared to the Monza Spider, the Balero's CG is a full 15% lower.

"The Rossa Monza Spider Balero's easy-to-aim shape, forgiveness and smooth-rolling AGSI technology makes it a phenomenal putter, and absolutely deadly from short range," said Price. "Plus, it's already been played on the PGA Tour and been used to win an event on the Japan Tour."

Rossa Monza Spider Balero becomes available starting on May 21 at $159.

TaylorMade Golf Introduces R9 460 Driver: Combines Flight Control Technology with a 460cc Clubhead and a Longer, Lighter Shaft

CARLSBAD, Calif. (May 13, 2009)– In February, TaylorMade Golf introduced the R9™ driver, which today is the No. 1 driver model on the PGA Tour. Now, TaylorMade is introducing the R9 460 driver, which combines TaylorMade's renowned Flight Control Technology (FCT) with the forgiveness and power of a 460cc titanium clubhead and the speed-promoting properties of a longer length and extremely lightweight graphite shaft. All at the remarkable street price of $299.

FCT gives the golfer the power to easily change the club's face angle, loft and lie angle simply by loosening a bolt in the sole, rotating the shaft into the designated position, then tightening the bolt. FCT makes it so easy to adjust the angle of the clubface into a position that suits your eye and your swing, helping you hit the ball straighter and longer. It also promotes a side-to-side change in trajectory of up to 40 yards, helping golfers to promote a draw or fade, or diminish a hook or slice. The R9 460 includes a white FCT wrench that delivers the 40 inch-pounds of torque necessary to adequately tighten the FCT bolt.

"FCT proved itself to be a major, major metalwood innovation immediately after we launched the R9 driver earlier this year," said Sean Toulon, TaylorMade executive vice president of innovation. "Tour pros took to it right away, and it quickly became the No. 1 driver model on the PGA Tour. Amateur golfers also embraced it quickly, as sales have been fantastic around the world, especially in the United States, Europe and Japan."

Compared to the R9 driver, the R9 460 driver has a larger head, deeper clubface and lower and deeper-back center of gravity (CG), qualities that deliver a higher MOI for greater forgiveness and a higher spin-rate, helping low-spin players keep the ball in the air longer for increased carry and distance.

Powerful 460cc Clubhead featuring TaylorMade's New Classic Shape
"In addition to the advantages of FCT in a 460cc clubhead, the R9 460 also delivers the kind of shape, feel and sound that TaylorMade drivers are famous for, and which our competitors can't come close to matching," said Harry Arnett, TaylorMade senior category director for metalwoods. The shape is what TaylorMade calls "new classic" because it is at once modern and traditional. The R9 460's new classic shape offers three distinct advantages: 1) it allows for a deep back, far-from-the-face CG location that makes it easier to launch the ball; 2) it contributes to a higher MOI for greater stability on off-center hits; 3) it allows for an exceptionally low CG location.

The R9 460's clubhead is constructed with the aid of TaylorMade's Ultra-Thin Wall (UTW) technology, which allows for clubhead walls measuring as thin as 0.6 millimeters, with the saved weight redistributed to help make the low and-deep-back CG possible.

Longer Club-length; Aldila RE*AX® 60-gram tip-soft shaft
The R9 460 driver is long in length – 45.75" – and equipped with an Aldila RE*AX® 60-gram tip-soft shaft, available in L, M, R, S and X flexes. The characteristics of the shaft and the club's added length together promote increased clubhead speed and distance. "Players who put a premium on distance are going to want to put the R9 460 in play," said Arnett. "It features a variety of characteristics designed to work together to promote faster ball speed and distance-enhancing launch conditions, while FCT technology will help them achieve the shot-shape they want to help keep the ball in the short grass."

Inverted Cone Technology
The R9 460 driver also incorporates TaylorMade's renowned Inverted Cone clubface technology, which expands the area of the clubface that delivers high ball speed. Characterized by an inverted cone that's milled directly onto the inner side of the clubface, Inverted Cone Technology increases the club's forgiveness on mis-hits. Together, the combination of the R9 460's Inverted Cone Technology, high MOI and exceedingly low CG makes it incredibly easy to hit.

On Tour
"Tour pros always want their drivers bent in some way, usually to change the face angle or to add or subtract loft," said Keith Sbarbaro, TaylorMade vice president of tour operations. It's so easy to do that with FCT. Instead of taking the club to our tour trailer and putting it in a bending block, we can adjust it quickly and cleanly, right on the spot, either at the practice range or the first tee. And now all golfers have the option to adjust their face angle, loft and lie angle, like tour pros do."

Tour professionals who have put the R9 driver in play include Sean O'Hair, Kenny Perry, Sergio Garcia, Justin Rose, Darren Clark and Andres Romero. The R9 460 is expected to attract similar interest among tour pros. "A lot of tour pros have been asking if we could incorporate FCT into a driver with a 460cc head, so we're expecting a lot of R9 460 drivers to go into play, which will further increase R9 dominance on tour."

R9 460 TP
For tour pros and skilled players, the R9 460 TP is also being introduced. It features the same identical clubhead as the R9 460, but is equipped with a Fujikura Motore F1 65 graphite shaft with a .335" tip. The R9 460 TP is also available with the following custom shaft offerings in X, S and R flexes: Fujikura Motore F1 75, Fujikura Motore F1 85, Fujikura Motore F1 55, Aldila® Voodoo VS6, Aldila Voodoo NV6, Mitsubishi® Fubuki 63, Mitsubishi Fubuki 73, Matrix Ozik X-CON 5 and Matrix HD 6.

Availability
Available lofts for the R9 460 and R9 460 TP drivers include 8.5°, 9.5°, 10.5° and 11.5° in right-handed, 9.5° and 10.5° in left-handed. Availability at retail begins May 16.

Sean O'Hair wins the Quail Hollow Championship

CARLSBAD, Calif. (May 4, 2009) - TaylorMade-adidas Golf Tour Staff professional Sean O'Hair won the Quail Hollow Championship yesterday, one of the premier events on the PGA Tour. Using TaylorMade's new R9 driver and TP Red LDP ball, O'Hair combined excellent distance, ranking 7th with an average of 312.6 yards, with exceptional accuracy, ranking T19th at 51.8%. He also ranked T3rd in greens in regulation, rounding out an outstanding tee-to-green performance on the exceedingly challenging Quail Hollow Club, in Charlotte, N.C.

O'Hair was one of 29 competitors in the field to use an R9 driver*, extending the R9's streak to 13 consecutive PGA Tour events as the No. 1 driver model. So far the R9 has been put in play on the PGA Tour more often than any other driver, and has ranked as the No. 1 driver model at a total of 17 events. Other competitors who played the R9 at Quail Hollow included Sergio Garcia, Justin Rose, Robert Garrigus, Paul Goydos, Pat Perez and Vaughn Taylor.

O'Hair was the only player in the final nine groups to break 70 in the final round, and his three-under 69 came despite the tough course set-up and brisk winds in the afternoon. TaylorMade TP balls, the TP Red and TP Black, are renowned for their stability and ability to hold their line through the wind. O'Hair's Quail Hollow win was the TP balls’ fourth victory on the PGA Tour this year and the 10th worldwide.

The win elevated O'Hair to 12th on the World Golf Ranking and into 4th place on the U.S. Presidents Cup team points list. It also makes him, at 26 years old, the only player in the world under 30 with three PGA Tour victories.
