Clemson, South Carolina golfer James Byrd the father of Jonathan Byrd passed away Monday from brain cancer. James was involved in baseball and football at the University of North Carolina but his family said his passion was golf and competing with his sons. Three-time PGA Tour winner Johnathan Byrd withdrew from this week's John Deere Classic in Silvis, Illinois and has not played since the Memorial Tournament. Memorial services will be held Friday at First Presbyterian Church in Columbia with a private burial to follow. James Byrd Jr. was 65 years old. Our deepest sympathies go out to the entire Byrd family.
