Major Championship Statement:
Funk Shatters Scoring Record, Wins U.S. Senior Open

Final-round 65 makes Funk first player to finish a USGA championship at 20-under par

Carlsbad, Calif. (August 3, 2009) – TaylorMade Tour Staff professional Fred Funk parlayed a 54-hole lead into a record-breaking finish at the U.S. Senior Open Championship on Sunday, shooting a final-round 65 at Crooked Stick to shatter the tournament scoring record. Funk bettered the previous U.S. Senior Open record by three strokes and became the first player to finish a USGA championship at 20-under par.

Funk, 53, rebounded from last week's playoff loss at the Senior Open Championship to fellow TaylorMade Tour Staffer Loren Roberts to earn his second senior major and fifth win overall on the Champions Tour. Using a Burner 09 driver, Funk was nearly flawless from the tee box, finishing with 84 percent driving accuracy. Critical to his victory was the methodical way he hammered the par-fives throughout the week, playing them in 11-under. Funk's seven birdies on Sunday pushed his championship total to 24, two more than anyone else in the field.
